History of Photography Assignment - Through Another Lens

My chosen “genre” of photography for this assignment is Art & New Perspectives. What fascinates me about this specific style of photography is the creativity and often unusual angles that it involves.

We are living in times where artists are able to express themselves through their artwork and allow their creative minds to wander. It wasn’t until approximately the 1900’s that photographers started to rebel from societal norms, creating a whole new genre of photography for its time.
I have a collection of loose lenses in my room that I decided to use for my series. I enjoy how the reflection captured through the lens is seen upside down, giving the viewers a different perspective to look through.

I chose to capture different sceneries or subjects through the same lens, curious on what it will look like. My goal was to take photographs of things that I see every day to view them from a new perspective.

Like many of the photographers we have learned about within this photography genre, I enjoy capturing images in a ‘not so typical’ manner. I’ve quickly learned that I enjoy incorporating odd angles, capturing through reflections, or adding an artistic twist to the images. I feel a sense of comfort and joy when I see images that don’t fit within the typical mold.
I find myself fascinated with the photographs from artist Man Ray that delivered the unexpected, Saul Leiter that captured sceneries through windows and glass, and William Eggleston that created photographs in warm vibrant colours. These three artists all deliver creative outcomes that are inherently different from one another, which I hope to achieve with my style of photography someday.
